When choosing your route, make sure it’s appropriate for your fitness level. Check to see if the restaurants and cafes you plan to visit along the way are open. Pack your fully charged cell phone and maps in your backpack. For cross-border tours, please always carry a passport or ID card with you.

Route characteristics: 40% paved road, 40% dirt road, 20% forest trail

Sturdy shoes, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, trekking poles if needed, first-aid kit (blister bandages), and plenty of food (snacks, granola bars, fruit, water).

The starting point is the fountain near the information board. Walk along the B38 to the intersection, where you’ll turn toward Langschlag. After a few meters, just before the first house, turn left onto the local road toward Reichenau. Follow the road through a shady forest to the first houses of the hamlet of Hinterreichenau. Stay on the farm road and hike first on level ground and then downhill to the chapel in Reichenau. Here, turn right onto a slightly uphill path, passing two old farms and continuing through the forest, uphill to the “Kohlstatt” settlement, with the Binderberg on your right. From here, walk straight ahead to the edge of the forest, first along the forest road and then downhill along a sunken path back to Karlstift.
